Workshop on HOW TO START AND COMPLETE A RESEARCH PAPER

SCHOOL OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES organised Workshop On “HOW TO START (AND COMPLETE) A RESEARCH PAPER”

REVA University IEEE ComSoc Student Chapter, IEEE EMBS Student Chapter and School of Multidisciplinary Studies in association with IEEE ComSoc Bangalore Chapter and IEEE EMBS Bangalore Chapter in partnership with IEEE Student Branch REVA University organized a workshop on “HOW TO START (AND COMPLETE) A RESEARCH PAPER” on 26th January, 2021. It was an offline event conducted in TESLA LAB, Room No:G-11, Ground Floor, C V Raman Block, REVA University. More than 30 participant from B.Tech., M.Tech, Ph.D. Scholars and faculty members attended the session. The workshop was free to attend and participation certificates (e-certificates) are issued to all attendees.

Dr. Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed, Assistant Director School of Multidisciplinary Studies.

Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed received bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a master’s degree in Computer Network Engineering from Visveswaraya Technical University, Belgaum, India, in 2007 and 2010 respectively, and Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jain University, India, in 2016. He is currently working as an associate professor and Assistant Director in School of Multidisciplinary Studies at REVA University. He is Founder and Managing Director of PSYSQUARE (an OPC) which focuses on providing solutions in the domain of Cyber-Physical Systems. His research interests include RFID, Smart devices, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Sciences, Machine Learning, Technology Intervention for Elderly, Memristors and Neuromorphic Engineering. He is a recognized mentor from Texas Instruments and recipient of grants from the IEEE standards committee. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Session-1: 10 AM to 12 PM
The workshop started with the importance of research and its impact on the students ( B.Tech., M.Tech and Ph.D.) thought process that benefits them to attain the maturity over the concepts. The speaker well presented on presented on the topic “one of the important talent is STAYING FOCUSED”. Other topics covered in the session are listed below:
•    Sustainable Development Goals
•    Selection of Topic: Topic should be to the core
•    Importance of Research Gate, Google Scholar and Academia
•    Open Source Resources
•    The connectivity between Science, Mathematics, Technology and Phylosophy
•    Intellectual Property Rights
•    Collaborative research work

Session-2: 12.15 PM to 3.15PM
This Session started with an activity of formulating a title for the research paper, the speaker made participant to choose their interested topic of research and find the keywords related to WHY, WHAT and HOW using which a research title is formulated. The session further covered how to search relevant papers and how to do research. Furthermore the speaker presented the details about how to write a paper and the tricks in presenting the content and completing the article. The remaining session was well covered with How and What all contents to be included in each of the sections with an example paper structure. The example paper structure was organized with following sections.

•    Introduction
•    Background/Literature Survey
•    Proposed Model/Algorithm (for implementation paper)
•    Results and Discussion
•    Conclusion
•    Acknowledgement
•    Appendix
•    References
