National Workshop on Next Generation Sequencing and Data Analysis organized by Department of Biotechnology, School of Chemical and Biological Sciences, REVA University on 09/04/2018- 14/04/2018.
Department Of Biotechnology organized workshop on Next Generation Sequencing and Data Analysis from 9th to 14th April 2018. The session was attended by PG and Ph.D. students from Kuvempu University and REVA University students and Faculty members.
The workshop inaugural session was presided by Dr.S.Y Kulakarni, Honorable Vice Chancellor ,REVA University. The Chief Guest of the session was Dr. Deepthi Saini, CEO The Protein Design Pvt.Ltd., Bangalore. The Inaugural session started at 10:00 AM in Adbul Kalam Seminar hall, Science Block, REVA University. Dr.Deepthi Saini has graced the occasion and addressed the gathering emphasising on Next Generation Sequenicng and their applications on current biological Research.
The Module 1 started on the first day with 2 resource persons, Dr.Sushil Kumar Middha, Assistant Professor, and Dr.Usha T Assistant Professor, Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for women, Autonomous, Bangalore. They provided hands on training on molecular biology techniques such as DNA Isolation of plant samples, DNA quantification using Gel Electrophoresis. Second day session continued with seminar on library prepration and hands on training on DNA sequencing library preparation. The third day of the session continued with DNA sequencing using Oxford Nanopore Technology where hands on training to run the sequencing machine was provided for studetnts.
The module 2 started on 12th April 2018 with paper presentation by Mr.Anupam J Das, Director, Molsys Scientific, Bengaluru followed by hands on session conducted by Dr.C.N.Prashantha, Assistant Professor, REVA University. The Training in bioinformatics started with both theory and practical sessions on NGS Data Analysis of different exome sequencing samples. On 13th April 2018 valedictory programme was scheduled at 3:00 PM where Chief Guest of the day was Dr.Chenna Byre Gowda, Retired Professor, GKVK, Bangalore. He addressed the gathering briefing on Plant Genomics and Coordinatory of Small Millets Project, ICAR, New Delhi. On 14th April 2018 the session continued where overall hands on training was briefed and the outcome of the workshop was discussed. All the students participated enthusiastically in the session and they have appreciated. The overall session was very productive, interactive and informative.
