The resource persons emphasised on the role of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in governing the lives of the citizens and ensuring equality amongst them. The lecture took its course towards highlighting the position of women in the 20th century and their gradual progress towards emancipation. The idea about various social evils like those of domestic violence and sexual abuse struck a similar chord with the marginalised status of women in India. By extrapolating on the issues of rape, abortion and property rights, the speakers stressed on the need for a further amendment in the laws that would work towards the betterment of the condition of women in the 21st century.

The Director of the School of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Payel Dutta Chowdhury, provided an insight into the Indian scenario of violence and abuse which enabled the students to point out the parallels that exist between India and Canada, along with the shared colonial history.
