Invitation for distinguished technical talk on Development of Nano-Satellite by students

The School of ECE takes pleasure to organize a distinguished technical talk on “Development of Nano-Satellite by students” by Prof. M. Krishnaswamy (Former Programme Director for IRS and Small Satellite System of ISRO, Bangalore) on 4th February 2019 between 02.30 p.m. and 04.00 p.m. in Kuvempu Auditorium, C V Raman Block.


The design and development of Nano-Satellite is a multidisciplinary activity, this program is organized for the benefits of Faculty Members, Research Scholars, UG and PG students across the university in the domains of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Sciences - Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Management.


It's a great opportunity to get a glimpse of a live satellite project development.


Since this talk is interdisciplinary in nature, I request all the school Directors to send one section of students for this talk along with faculty and researchers.

Prof. M. Krishnaswamy, was born in the year 1948 and has received his BE (Hons) in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, in 1971 and his Post Graduation in electronics from Baba Atomic Research Center (BARC) Training School, Bombay in 1972.


Soon after completing his studies, he joined Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram and associated with the design, development and successful launching of Satellite Launch Vehicles (SLV-3), Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicles (ASLV) and Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV) and Spacecraft like APPLE, IRS series and INSAT-2 series of satellites.


He worked with His Excellency, the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam from 1972 to 1983 for the development and Launch of SLV-3 Launch Vehicle.


He worked in VSSC Thiruvananthapuram from 1972 to 1996, in various capacities, right from Design and Development Engineer, Group Leader, Team Leader, Head of Instrumentation Electronics Section, Project Manager, Head of Satellite Inertial Elements Division and Deputy Project Director for IRS series of satellites.


He was transferred Bangalore and worked in ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Bangalore, from 1996 to 2007 as Project Director for Many Indian Remote Sensing Satellites. He was the Project Director for the Technology Experiment Satellite (TES), Cartosat-1, Cartosat-2, Cartosat-2A and Cartosat-2B which are all high resolution imaging missions incorporating many new technologies and are providing imageries for more the 10 years for urban and rural infrastructural developmental applications.


He was elevated as Programme Director in 2007 for IRS & Small Satellite Systems (IRS & SSS) Programme of ISRO and guided and managed many prestigious Space Missions like Chandrayaan-1, Oceansat-2, Resourcesat-2, Indian Mini Satellite (IMS)-1 and Youthsat which were all successfully launched and operationalized.


He was awarded ISRO merit award for individual outstanding performance and the team award for Cartosat-2 team for the year 2007.


He has been selected for the award of 2008 laurel for team achievement by International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) which he received at 58th IAF congress at Glasgow, UK, during Oct.2008.


He has also been awarded overall Performance Excellence Award for the year 2009 for his Excellent Contribution to the Indian Space Programme.


Presently he is a visiting Professor for Noorul Islam University, Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, in guiding the students in developing the Nano satellite technologies in the University. The NIUSAT nano satellite developed by the students of the NI University under his guidance, was successfully launched by PSLV Launch Vehicle on 23rd June 2017 and was successfully performed in the orbit for more than one year.


He is also an adjunct Professor at Shri Krishna College of Engineering Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, for guiding the R&D projects at the college.


He is a member of Board of Governors of BMS college of Engineering, Bangalore, Karnataka and also a sub-committee member for the review of TEQUIP-III activities at this college.


He is a life member of National Institute of Quality and Reliability.
