REPORT ON COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM

Organised By : School of Architecture, REVA UNIVERSITY

 

School of Architecture, REVA UNIVERSITY conducted aCOMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMat GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOL, PALANAHALLI, YELAHANKA on Saturday 16th September 2017. The program was carried out with the help of 21 students from first semester accompanied by two Faculty members Ar.VidyaSrikanth and Ar.Kokila Mohan from the school. The intention of this session was to have healthy exchange of knowledge and skills with the bright young minds which was carried outin 3 sessions as part of understanding the upcoming Dasara festival in the form of act, origami and coloring.

 

Activities Executed:

 

1. Introduction with Ice breaking session and Basic origami workshop: It was an virtual boundary drawn between the two strangers which was broken by carrying out an introduction and ice breaking sessions between the school children and RUSOA students and moved forward with origami. The art of paper folding “origami” has many benefits like developing eye-hand co-ordination, sequencing skills, attention skills, patience, temporal spatial skills, math reasoning etc. Our Student volunteers engaged the school children with some basic Origami based activities creating craftwork that can be used to brighten up their learning spaces.

 

2. Storytelling session and enacting: Stories are effective educational tools of learning. Storytelling can be seen as a foundation for learning and teaching. Storytelling is used as a tool to teach children the importance of respect through the practice of listening. It is also used to teach children to have respect for all life, value interconnectedness and always work to overcome adversity. Our student volunteers conducted one hour storytelling and drama session for the school children.

 

3. Painting/ Coloring: To restore and remember the story about the Dasara festival the school children trained with some basic coloring techniques.The entire two plus hours of the program was veryengaging in terms of sharing the knowledge to the primary school children of standard 1st, 2ndad 3rd. We look forward for few more important sessions to be conducted by School of Architecture, REVA University.Our sincere thanks to the Palanahalli, Government School Principal Ms. Dakshayini Madam and all the class teachers for their cooperation, Special thanks to Ms. Andalvardharajan for intiating the program between school and RUSOA.
