Energy Conservation and Renewable energy system awareness programme at Shivakote Village Near Hesaragatta on 24-03-2018

At School of EEE, 6th sem students have conducted awareness program on energy conservation and renewable energy system for the rural village people at the Shivakote village near Hesaragatta, rural Bangalore on 24-03-2018. About 110 students and 5 faculties have participated in the awareness program.


During this program, the students have visited all the houses in the village to conduct door to door survey to all the houses and collected the energy details from each house. Below is the energy usage details:

  • LED lamps usage: 10%
  • CFL lamps usage: 60%
  • Fluorescent lamps: 10%
  • Incandescent lamps: 20%
  • Solar water heaters: 10%
  • Solar PV for lighting: nil
  • Water harvesting: 10 – 12%
  • Gas with subsidy: 40 – 50%
  • Firewood for cooking: 30 – 40%
  • Water pumps with electric power supply: 100%
  • Gobar gas plant installed very long ago and not working
  • Water supply: village panchayat
  • Electricity availability: 80 – 90%
  • Digital energy meters: 100%
  • Monthly electricity bill: Rs. 200 to Rs. 500

The students have explained about the energy conservation measures to save the electrical bill and also given the awareness on use of solar energy for water heating, solar home lighting system, solar lantern, solar cookers, energy efficient smokeless where they will reduce wood consumption as well as smoke will reduce considerably, gobar gas plant for cooking as well as for lighting, solar pumps through MNRE subsidy scheme, etc. The students also distributed the pamphlet and also distributed 100 numbers of energy efficient LED bulbs to the poor people with free of cost to encourage the people to use energy efficient lighting fixtures.

The students have conducted the street play to motivate the people and students of schools to use energy efficient equipment and also use the renewable energy system to reduce the environmental pollution.

Finally the students have conducted some fun games to the children to motivate them do well in their studies and come to REVA University for higher study.

The Panchayat president and all the villagers have appreciated the effort put our EEE school students to create the awareness program for the villagers and also distribution of LED lamps.
