“Your City shapes your identity, the pride and love must find expression”, reverberated Mr. C. B. Jayaranga, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Bangalore North, Govt. of Karnataka, at Kalakruthi 2018, an Interschool on Spot Painting and Essay Writing Competition on the theme, “My City- My Heritage- My Pride”, organized by the School of Architecture, REVA University in association with INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage). More than 200 students of Grades IX, X, and PUC from across different schools in Bengaluru participated in the event on 30 November 2018, in the University campus.

Dr. Vimala Swamy, Director, School of Architecture welcomed the assembly of students with gusto, charting out the aim of the event which is, “to rediscover yourself through the city, its culture and its history”. The Chief Guest of the event Mr. C. B. Jayaranga, expressed similar sentiments, adding that REVA is involved in a service “reviving interest and helping the youth of the city readjust their vision by giving Bengaluru their artistic interpretation”. Guest of Honour, Ar. Pankaj Modi, Conservation Architect, Technical Coordinator, INTACH, Bangalore, appealed to the dormant spirit of the city, by asking the participants to first, “recognize our heritage” and “experience its palpability”, calling it, a “living heritage that needs to be preserved”. Dr. P. Shyama Raju, Honorable Chancellor REVA University, presided over the event, recalling, his fascination for the city, said “The city embodies an undying core that needs to be captured, use your imagination to give it your own dimension”. Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, REVA University graced the occasion with his presence.
