FDP on Frontiers in Machine Intelligence and Soft Computing (In association with NIT, Warangal, Sponsored by Meity, Government of India)

The School of C&IT had organized Six Days Faculty Development Programme on “Frontiers in Machine Intelligence and Soft Computing” from 10/06/2019 to 15/06/2019, in association with National Institute of Technology, Warangal, which was sponsored by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. This FDP was open to the Faculty members of Engineering/Technical Institutions all over India. There was an overwhelming response for this FDP programme. Nearly 62 Faculty members across different parts of India were registered to this FDP as Participants. We had Participants from Hariyana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana including Karnataka. 
The inauguration function was held on 10th June 2019 at 10:00 AM in Kalpana Chawla Seminar Hall, C V Raman Block. The inauguration started with invocation song by Dr.Meenakshi Sundaram followed by REVA Anthem, and lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. Dr. Sunil Kumar Manvi, Director, School of C & IT welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr Kavi Mahesh, Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad and the Guest of Honor, Dr. R B V Subramaanyam, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Telengana State. Prof M.Mallikarjuna, Coordinator of the FDP talked about the significance and importance of the FDP, and highlighted the sessions covered in the Faculty Development Programme. Both, the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor were felicitated on the occasion. The Chief Guest, underlined the need of the state of the art technology, Machine Intelligence and Soft Computing and its impact on the Society. The Chief Guest, appreciated the school of C & IT for having organized such FDP. The Guest of Honor delivered the Key note speech. Following this is the Presidential Remarks by Vice Chancellor, Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni. The function was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Venkatesh Prasad. 
About the Chief Guest:-Dr. Kavi Mahesh is the Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad. Previously, he was the Dean of Research at PES University, Director of the World-Bank funded Research Centre for Knowledge Analytics and Ontological Engineering – KAnOE and a Professor of Computer Science. His areas of interest are knowledge management, analytics, epistemology, ontology, classification studies, and text processing and unstructured data management. He has three US patents and has published two books, 16 book chapters and 80 papers which have received over 1500 citations. 
About the Guest of Honor:-Dr. R.B.V. SUBRAMAANYAM, is a Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Warangal. He earned his M.Tech (CSE) and Ph.D. (CSE), both the Degrees from IIT, Khargapur. He has rich experience of teaching Computer Science & Engineering for more than three decades. His areas of interest include Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition, Algorithms, High Performance Computing, Soft Computing, and Outlier Analysis. He is the Chief Investigator, E&ICT Academy at NIT Warangal which is setup by MeitY, Govt of India with a fund of Rs.25 crore by assigning Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Jurisdiction. After the inaugural session, the resource person Dr. R.B.V Subramaanyam from NIT Warangal handled the next session. He briefed all the fundamental concepts of machine learning. The second day was also handled by Dr. R.B.V Subramaanyam. Speaker explained concepts like clustering, classification, principal component analysis, fuzzy data mining and dimensionality reduction. The third day and fourth day was completely hands on session. It was handled by Dr. Srinivas from IIIT Hyderabad. In the sessions he gave an insight ito concepts including artificial neural network, deep learning and convolutional neural network using Iris and MNIST datasets. The fifth day sessions were handled by Dr. C. Raghavendra Rao, Professor, School of Computer and Information Science, University of Hyderabad. The sessions comprised of rough set theory, correlating fuzzy and rough clustering, rough set approximations and analysis of rough set using thresholds. The last day session was handled by Dr. Anand Kumar, Professor, NIT Suratkal. The session was comprised of introduction to Natural Language processing (NLP). NLP in the context of Indian languages, Word Representation for Deep Learning, Recent Research Directions in NLP and Social Media. Valedictory was held on the last day of FDP. On this occasion, Coordinator of the FDP, Prof M.Mallikarjuna, gave an overview about the coverage of different sessions of the FDP. Dr. Sunil Kumar S Manvi, Director School of C&IT addressed the gathering and handed over the memento to the resource person, Dr. Anand Kumar and distributed certificates to all the participants. Feedback from participants had been taken. All the participants have expressed that the 5 days FDP was very effective and helpful for them towards their research. Eventually, Dr. Venkatesh Prasad delivered Vote of Thanks. 
We would like to thank our beloved Chancellor, Dr. P. Shyama Raju Sir for providing all facilities and support to conduct such programmes. We also thank Vice Chancellor Dr.S.Y.Kulkarni Sir, Advisor, Dr. V G Talawar Sir, Registrar Dr. M. Dhanamjaya Sir, and Dean-Training, 
Placement and Planning, Dr. N. Ramesh Sir, for their motivation, help and support in making this FDP a grand success. 
We also thank our Director, School of C&IT, Dr. Sunil Kumar S Manvi , for his constant support and guidance. We also thank all the Faculties and Technical staffs of School of C&IT for their support.
