Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch.)

Course Overview

The process of planning, designing and supervising construction of buildings or any civil structures is Architecture. Building first evolved out of the dynamics between needs and means. As human cultures developed and knowledge began to be formalized through oral traditions and practices, building became a craft, and "architecture" is the name given to the most highly formalized and respected versions of the craft. Historically, the great structures built across the world are considered as cultural symbols and great works of art and design, and architectural achievements.

A work of architecture will have the characteristics like suitability to use, stability and permanence, and communication of experience and idea through its form. Architecture began the first time humans built anything to live in. Stonehenge was built 3000 years ago, pyramid in Egypt was built in 2789 BC, and the great wall of china was built around 25 BC. The earliest surviving written work on the subject of architecture is De architectura, by the Roman architect Vitruvius in the early 1st century AD.

The architecture of India is rooted in its history, culture and religion. Indian architecture progressed with time and assimilated the many influences that came as a result of India's global discourse with other regions of the world throughout its millennia-old past. The architectural methods practiced in India are a result of examination and implementation of its established building traditions and outside cultural interactions. Though old, this Eastern tradition has also incorporated modern values as India became a modern nation state. The economic reforms of 1991 further bolstered the urban architecture of India as the country became more integrated with the world's economy. Traditional Vastu Shastra remains influential in India's architecture during the contemporary era.

According to current demand for architects, India needs more than 10,000 trained professionals in various government and private organizations. Ample working opportunities are available for architects who have specialization in one segment or the other. Numerous internationally acclaimed construction and real estate development companies provide employment opportunities to candidates who are willing to explore career outside India.

A number of colleges and institutes imparting education in architecture in India have come up in last six decades to meet the demand for trained architects.

The School of Architecture at REVA UNIVERSITY offers Council of Architects of India (COA) approved bachelor programme in Architecture to create motivated, innovative, thinking and creative graduates to fill the roles as Architect, Architecture Designer, Architectural Engineer or Interior Designer.
