FDP on Orientation Towards NBA

Held on : 29th July 2019

The School of Electronics and Communication Engineering has organized FDP on “Orientation Towards NBA”on 29th -30th July 2019 in Aryabhata seminar hall, C V Raman block. Delegates attending FDP were faculty from different schools of REVA University and from institutions affiliated to VTU. The inauguration function was held on 29th July 2019 at 10:00 AM. The inauguration started with invocation song by Miss. Sushma followed by REVA anthem, and lighting the lamp by the dignitaries.

Prof. Rohini Deshpande, Co-convener of the FDP welcomed the guests and gathering. Dr. R C Biradar director school of ECE spoke about the significance and importance of FDP. Dr. Lingana Gouda Kulkarni, the chief guest and resource person highlighted the need for NBA in the University context and briefed about the sessions he is going to cover in the faculty development program. Prof. S Y Kulkarni, the VC REVA University gave the presidential remarks and advised all the delegates to be in preparedness; in case their administration decides to go for NBA. The chief guest was felicitated on the occasion by presenting a REVA memento. The inauguration function was concluded by vote of thanks from Prof. Mrinal Sarvagya.

The orientation towards NBA was carried out in 15 well thought modules spanned over two days. The first session focused on the importance and basics of Outcome Based Education (OBE). The relation and correlation between objectives and outcomes are discussed.

The second session focused on Accreditation: A quality initiative covered the need for quality in education. The importance of value addition to quality education by the value adder-“The Teacher” was highlighted. Quality has to be seen as a measure of performance of the student up to their satisfaction.

The third session focused on NBA: A Quality Journey. The accreditation policy of NBA, the process followed by the NBA and the compliance to Washington Accord was explained. All 10 criteria of Self-Assessment Report(SAR), marks allotment for each criteria and evaluation schemes were discussed in length.

The fourth session focused again on OBE: A Paradigm Shift in Education. The clear difference between objectives and outcomes and how OBE sets the target for outcomes was discussed. The prerequisites for OBE implementation was covered in subsequent sessions covering teaching, learning, assessment. Application of Bloom’s taxonomy to facilitate measurement of level of learning in cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain was explained. The importance, purpose and components of rubrics were made to understand. Steps involved in developing rubrics were explained. The final session was interaction with participants.

Valedictory was held on the last day of FDP. The Guest of honor for the function was Mr. Ramchandra Bagdalkar, Ex- Director HR, Bharath Electronics Limited, Bangalore. Prof Raji C, gave an overview about the coverage of different sessions of the FDP. Prof. Riyaz Ahamad of school of ECE and Prof Padmanabha of East Point College of Engineering gave critical appreciation about the FDP. Dr. Linganagouda Kulkarni and Director ECE distributed certificates to all the participants. Feedback from participants had been taken. All the participants have expressed that the 2 days FDP was very effective and helpful for them. Eventually, Prof. Sugandha Saxena delivered vote of Thanks.

FDP on Industrial Robotics and Automation

Held on : 14th June 2019 - 15th June 2019

The School of ECE has organized a Faculty Development Program on “Industrial Automation and Robotics on 14-15 June 2019, in association with Axis Global Automation group of companies, Chennai. The FDP was inaugurated on 14thJune, 2019 at 9.30 am in Aryabhata Seminar Hall, C V Raman block, under the auspices of Mr. Rajesh Raghavan, Regional Head – South, Yashkawa, India and Mr. Ezhilmaran Arumugam, Director, Axis Global Automation group of companies, Chennai as Chief guests. Honorable Vice Chancellor and the Director School of ECE have graced the Inaugural function.

In Day-1 of the FDP, Introduction to the industrial automation was deliberated and the products from Axis global & Yashkawa were displayed. The hands-on session on (DVP-14 SS2) – WPL software was also organized and the participants from the School of ECE and other Engineering schools are also given the basic operational training on the tools and techniques. The upload and download of ladder program, industrial automation programs, Communication protocol and V-Box and controlling PLC through mobile using WPL software was successfully demonstrated and practiced. After that the session on SCADA was discussed in details and related SCADA software, Wonderware Intouch software – trial version was given for the practice to the participants. Usage of digital and analog tags are deliberated in the session.

In Day-2 of the FDP, Training was given on the Industrial Robotics software – Motosim EG. Design and simulation programs of Yashkawa robot was also demonstrated. Hands on session on HMI with PLC using Rs 485 was also demonstrated. Along with that, following are discussed at length: Controlling of HMI through e-remote, Demo application on interfacing PLC, SCADA and HMI, Introduction to Interpolation and Coordinate system, selection of robot and end effectors.

The participants expressed their complete satisfaction on the learning outcomes of the FDP in terms of knowledge on PLC, SCADA and Robotics Simulation software’s and working model of PLC hardware kits PLC-DVP 14SS2.

We would like to extend appreciations for Senior consultants from AGIIT (one of the training subsidiary of Axil global group of companies) for delivering such an insightful and illustrious Industrial Automation and Robotics training and exposing them to the industry relevant robotics problems and the probable solutions using the PLC, SCADA and Robotics tools.

At the outset, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our beloved Chancellor Dr.P.Shyama Raju sir, for providing all facility and emphasizing us to promote quality Industry & Institute interaction programs.

Student Development Program Report on Intellectual Property Management (IPM) & Practices

 

Held on : 7th March 2019

 

The School of ECE organized Student Development Program on “Intellectual Property Management (IPM) & Practices” on 7th March 2019 between 9.30 am to 11.00 am in Aryabhatta Seminar hall, C V Raman Block. The resource person was Dr. Y V S Lakshmi, IEEE Senior Member, Group Leader IPR, Marketing & KMG, Centre for Development of Telematics (CDoT), Bangalore.

Dr Lakshmi received M.Sc.Engg. and Ph.D. from ECE Dept , Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Completed basic course on IPR conducted by WIPO and P.G. Diploma in IPR Law from NLSIU, Bangalore. Gained more than twenty years’ experience in the Telecom Industry in Quality, Reliability, Failure Analysis, Corporate Functions, IPR, Training & Teaching, and technology marketing. Currently Group Leader IPR, Marketing & Knowledge Management group (Bangalore) at C-DOT, Bangalore, prior to CDOT worked at ITI Ltd. Bangalore.

Around 110 students (UG and PG) from the School of ECE attended the SDP.

The SDP focused on following key points:

2. What can be patented?
3. Conditions of Patentability
4. Patent management
5. Patent information sources
6. Benefits of patent information
7. Examples of patents in nano-electronics, MEMS & solar cells
8. Issues of Copyrights, Trade mark, Trade secret
9. The semiconductor integrated circuits layout-design act 2000
10. Geographical indications

The interactive program concluded in the form of a crossword quiz for the students. The students were given ample time to solve the cross word puzzle based on the IPR. In the interactive question answer session at the end, UG and PG students cleared their doubts successfully. The SDP on Intellectual Property Management (IPR) & Practices by Dr. Y V S Lakshmi, was highly applauded by the students and culminated in the incubation of knowledge about IPR among the UG and PG students.

Faculty Development Program Report on “Bloom’s Taxonomy”

Attended by: Around 50 faculties and technical staff from the School of ECE attended the FDP.

Dr G T Raju, Vice-Principal, Professor and Head of CSE, RNSIT, Bangalore is the resource person for this FDP. Dr G T Raju BE(CSE), ME(CSE), PhD has 25 years of teaching, 1.5 years industry and 12 years research experience. His areas of research interest are Data Min-ing, Web Mining Image Processing, Prefetching and Caching, Information Retrieval. His publications are 65+ papers at reputed indexed International Journals, 45+ papers at reputed Intrrnational Conferences and 6 at National conferences. He has published 5 technical books and three patents. His other achievements are Best Teacher Award and Rajiv Gandhi Gold Medal.

Around 100 students witnessed the event.

Chief Guest and Resource Person Mr. Raghu Prasad motivated the students by highlighting the importance of practical knowledge and briefed about the significance of Web Programming, MATLAB Simulations courses. Mr. Naveen and Mr. Satya Narayan highlighted the importance of Design and Development of Quad-Copter, Linux Fundamentals, Basics of LabVIEW Simulations courses. Dr. Bharathi S H, Professor, School of ECE, thanked all 2nd Sem students for active involvement in SDC courses and motivated to continue learning on these courses by doing mini projects, Dr. P I Basarkod, Professor, School of ECE, motivated the students to be regular and to make use of these four days effectively in gaining extra skills.

FDP Report on Effective use of cloud labs in Academia

It is a pleasure to inform all that School of ECE had organized Faculty Development Program on “EFFECTIVE USE OF CLOUD LABS in ACADEMIA” on 9th January 2019 between 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Aryabhatta Seminar hall, C V Raman Block.

The Resource persons of the FDP was Mr. Giridhar L V,CEO,NUVEPRO TECHNOLOGIES Pvt Ltd and Mr. Pramod Nayak, CTO, SKILLADDER TECHNOLOGIES Pvt Ltd.

Around 30 faculties from the school of ECE attended the Workshop.

The FDP focused on :
• Demonstrating five different kinds of labs.
• AWS, Azure, Big Data, Windows, JAVA environments and deep learning of LINUX based labs.
• Demonstrating on creation of specific labs like Python for signal and image processing.
• Creating trail accounts of usage of cloud labs and excess of various resources available in Cloud Labs.

The School of ECE had organized a session on” Motivational Speech to enlighten youth” 31st October, 2018 between 10.50 AM to 11.50 AM in Room No: 112 for B. Tech 1st Semester students. Mr. Vijay, CEO and Founder, Tidi Business Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bangalore (Alumni of REVA ITM) was the resource person.

Three Days Skill Development & Certification Programs on the Internet of Things (IoT) Using MSP430

It gives us an immense pleasure to share with you all that, on 29th September 2018, we have inaugurated four day three Skill Development & Certification Programs on the Internet of Things (IoT) Using MSP430, Mobile Application Development, Power of Embedded Systems Courses for 3rd Semester students of School of ECE.

Mr. Sanjay Director, Ms. Geek Technologies Private Limited, Bangalore Mr. Kotresh CEO Indian Tech-Keys, Bangalore, Mr. Rakesh Edgate Technology, Bangalore and Dr. R.C Biradar, Director, School of ECE, Prof. Sudarshan K M SDC Coordinator have presided over the function. Around 120 audiences witnessed the event.

The Inaugural function started with REVA Anthem followed by lamp lighting by the dignitaries.

Chief Guest and Resource Person Mr. Kotresh briefed the significance of the Power of Embedded System Course and Mr. Sanjay and Mr. Rakesh was highlighted the importance of Mobile Application Development (MAD) and IoT using MSP430 courses respectively.

Dr. R.C Biradar, Director School of ECE in his presidential address motivated the participants to make use of these four days effectively in gaining extra skills.

Few parents have visited the Skill Development Training venues and witnessed the SDC activities of their wards.

It is pleasure to inform all that School of ECE had organized Faculty Development Program on “Design and Development of Second Level Project Based Curriculum” on 2nd and 3rd August 2018. Mr. Jwalant Joshipura, Director, NXP Semiconductors graced the occasion by being the chief guest. The Resource person of the FDP was Dr. Vikas V Shinde, Director, PBL, Vishwaniketan Institute of Management Entrepreneurship and Engineering Technology, Maharashtra. Around 30 faculties from all the schools attended the Workshop.

Antenna Design and analysis Using Ansys HFSS

About The Event:

The School of Electronics and Communication Engineering inaugurated a Two days workshop on “Antenna Design and analysis Using Ansys HFSS“on Saturday, 28th July 2018 at 9.30 am in 216-A Lab, C V Raman Block for ECE faculty members.

Dr. R C Biradar, Director, School of ECE gave a brief insight about “Antenna Design and analysis Using Ansys HFSS” and its importance in the field of wireless communication for next generation

The Resource person of the function, Wing commander M Shailesh Kumar and Prof. Tanweer enlightened the audience regarding Antenna Design and analysis Using Ansys HFSS– in specific how to Design and Analyze the Antenna for Wireless Applications using Ansys HFSS, Multiband antennas, Metamaterial based antennas, Reconfigurable antenna and Millimeter wave 5G antenna etc. This session also highlighted –Antenna design for different wireless standards.

The Coordinators of the workshop Dr. P I Basarkod, Prof. Subhash B K and Prof. Durga Prasad were present during the event. More than 15 participants from various colleges and universities had participated in the workshop. The Inauguration function was concluded by Vote of Thanks by Prof. Subhash B K and Prof. Durga Prasad.

The First day focused on Antenna Basics and hands on session by Wing commander M Shailesh Kumar modeling of microstrip antennas with differential feeding techniques using Ansys HFSS. Second day concentrated hands on session by Prof Tanweer on modeling of UWB antenna, multiband antenna, reconfigurable antenna and millimeter wave 5G antenna for diverse wireless applications.

FDP on Vedic Approach to Enhance Teaching and Research Quality

The School of ECE, REVA University, in association with “The Foundation for the Preservation of Knowledge, Penfield,USA has organized one day FDP on "Vedic Approach to Enhance Teaching and Research Quality" on 24th July 2018, in CNR Rao Seminar Hall, C V Raman Block The FDP was inaugurated by chief guest Dr P R Mukund, Professor, Electrical Engineering, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York, USA and guest of honor Dr Anand Gopalan, CTO, Velodyne LiDAR, USA. Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor, REVA University presided over the function.

Dr. S Y Kulkarni gave the presidential remarks and briefed about the importance of Vedic approach and traditional values in day to day life. The Chief guest Dr P R Mukund enlightened the audience by describing the true meaning of Vedas about pursuit of truth which has “no beginning and no end”, and also about the application of Vedic way of life in Academics, Industry and Innovation. Guest of honor Dr. Anand Gopalan gave brief insight into Vedic approach towards the enhancement of teaching and research quality.

R C Biradar, Director, School of ECE and the Coordinators of the FDP Dr. Manjunath R Kounte and Dr. Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed were present during the event. More than 100 participants from various colleges and universities had participated in the FDP.

The First Session focused on becoming outstanding educators that requires going far beyond being good teachers. In particular, the role of scholarship and mentoring are focused upon. The second session focused on scholarship and funded research. The art of writing good winning research proposals, requirements for publishing at international conferences and journals, collaborative research. The third session focused on the importance of interaction with industry.

Expectations of technology companies from successful academic partnerships and the importance of delivering useful results are examined. The final session was interaction with participants.

The School of Electronics and Communication Engineering inaugurated a FDP on “Outcome Based Education “on Monday, 23rd July 2018 at 9.30 am in C N R Rao Seminar Hall, C V Raman Block for ECE faculty members.

Dr. R C Biradar, Director, School of ECE gave a brief insight about “Outcome Based Education” and its importance for the betterment of University.

The Resource person of the function, Dr. Surendra Rao Shankapal, Dean IQAC enlightened the audience regarding outcome based education – in specific how to draft PEOs, POs, course objectives, course outcomes, mapping CO-PO, job role requirements, learner centric domains and assessment, etc. This session also highlighted - corporate training, competency enhancement, consultancy, skill enhancement.

Intellectual Property Rights

About The Event:

On 24/03/2018 School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, REVA University had conducted Faculty development program on "Intellectual property rights". This initiative of school was to bring awareness about importance of IPR and introduction to IP filing procedures, among faculties and to encourage faculties to file IP for their research ,Inventions and Innovative projects. The event started with formal inauguration and key address by Professor Dr.R.C.Biradar, director school of ECE. Director sir through a light on importance of need of IP wealth creation in organization and importance of securing IP wealth , in his key address.

Mrs.Bhavya.K.B (Patent Analyst) was a resource person of the FDP program. She has a Post-graduation diploma in IPR from National Law School of India University, Bangalore and an LLB from KSLU, Hubli.

She was associated with IP Cell of IISC for 5 years. During her tenure at IISc she was handling Drafting and negotiating research and license agreements, Preparing, filing and prosecuting patent, design and copyright applications personally and also through outside counsel and also involved industry institute collaboration for commercialization of technology.

From October 2015 to January 2018 she has been the Coordinator for the Patent Information Centre KSCST. She coordinates the IPR Awareness programs at the Engineering Colleges and other Professional Institutions and also assists in patent drafting and filing assistance for students, researchers and small scale industries etc and also assists in filing trademark and design applications. Throughout the session topics such as Innovation , Intellectual property ,and awareness on IP Rights with various case studies, IPR for Electronics Engineering and Overview of patent filing and documentation procedures were discussed. The event was interactive session. Many faculties from School actively participated in the event. School is planning to conduct many more workshops on IPR and has actively taken initiative in filing patents from past one year and planning to file more innovations in upcoming days in order to create IP wealth in School and University. Fighter Aircraft Design

About The Event:

On 24/03/2018 School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, REVA University had conducted Faculty development program on "Fighter Aircraft Design". This initiative of school was to bring awareness about importance of Fighter avionics design and technology used in National defense system. So that faculty can carry out applications, research and projects under defense avionics. The event started with formal inauguration and key address by Professor Dr.R.C.Biradar, Director school of ECE. Director sir through a light on importance of engineers contribution in National defense sector. Dr. Sitharamraju (Emirate Professor ,School of ECE ) Who served as Emirate Scientist in Indian Fighter aircraft designs. was a resource person of the FDP program.

Throughout the session topics such as avionics system design in terms of mechanical, Electronics were discussed. The event was interactive session. Many faculties from School actively participated in the event. School is planning to conduct many more workshops on defense avionics systems and planning to take an initiative in visiting Indian Aircraft Design Laborites in upcoming days. This could result in deep , practical understanding of avionics system designs among students and faculties of School and University.

Faculty Development Program on “MOODLE: Assignment module”

About The Event:

The School of ECE has conducted a FDP on “MOODLE: Assignment module” on Saturday, 27th Jan, 2018 between 2.00 PM to 3:30 PM at S1 Lab for the school faculty. Prof. Amrut and Prof. Abdul from School of ECE were the resource persons. The session started with an Introduction to Moodle LMS process and its practical application to implement assignment activity for the ongoing B.Tech and M.Tech courses.

The FDP focused on the following key points:

  • Creating Assignment Activity within the course.
  • Announcing the assignment by uploading a document containing assignments for all the students (Common, Individual and group wise).
  • Demonstration to visualize the assignment module in the student portal and the students will submit the online assignment.
  • Grading the submitted assignments by the faculty and acknowledge students with assessed.
  • Visualization of gradebook.

School of Electronics and communication Engineering in association with CLINET WORLD under FORCE had organized a two days Faculty Development Program “Network Foundation Program” on 8 th & 9th January 2018 for faculty members of School of ECE.

Mr. Pavan H Iddalagi, Founder and Business Head, CLINET and Mr. Sankaralingam Theetharappan, CTO, CLINET, Bengaluru were the resource person. They started the session with fundamental concepts and hands-on session about implementation of Networks, Focusing on building practical knowledge over network domain for Faculties as well as Researchers.
